Employee Training Assurance Checklist
The employee training assurance checklist is a 15 page document.
The purpose of this checklist is to ensure that your restaurant new hires and employees are receiving the proper and consistent training per your training requirements. The person conducting this audit will verify by utilizing this checklist daily, weekly, monthly or semiannually. This is an unannounced audit. The auditor will verify that each new hires training agenda is done correctly and consistently by reviewing each employee training file.
Furthermore, the auditor will talk to a select group of new hires or employees to get their feedback on their training and their trainer. After the audit an action plan will be created to correct the training process. If the incorrect training process continues the trainer and the manager on duty should be accountable by documenting them. An action plan also should be done to correct the trainer and the manager on duty.
Training is an investment not an expense. If you want better customer service for your guests and a healthier bottom line, then start with training your employees the right way, not their way.
Another great way to utilize this checklist is for the head manager (Owner/GM) to sit down with the trainees after the final training and use this form as a training tool. The information in this checklist is valuable information if used properly. There are verbal questions along with the answers. Just ask the employee to answer the questions honestly and as best as they can. If they struggle with the question and answer read the answers to them and have them repeat it back to you for clarity.
Let the employee know that this is your expectation on how you want them to act and perform while he/she is employed at your business.
If the employee is having difficulty during the training process, then try to pinpoint the reason for the difficulty. Depending on the reason you may have to extend the training or find a better fit, meaning a different position. Use an action plan to correct the employee training. If the reason for the difficulty is a negative attitude, then rethink the employee’s employment at your restaurant.
There is a possibility that the issue may be related to how the trainee is treated by the trainer or manager. If this is the case, you should interview other trainees or employees, you may find that this is how the trainer and/or managers treat other employees. These managers and trainers will create a retention level that you can do without. Losing employees is costly big-time, don’t let this happen to you. If you use this checklist it will defiantly create better employee retention along with better-trained employees.
Think of it this way, if you are having issues with customer service, training, declining sales or repeat business and you do nothing to correct it, how much money will you be losing or how long before you close your restaurant doors for good.
